INDONESIAN TRADITIONAL "KEBAYA"

        In many parts of Indonesia, the kebaya is seen as a strong nationalistic symbol and has been strongly supported as a symbol of identity for Indonesian women by prominent figures throughout the nation's history.

        Recently, this traditional dress has become recognized internationally as it is used as the uniform for flight attendance (stewardesses) on Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, and Garuda Indonesia.

        As the next generation of Indonesia, we must conserve kebaya which was the original heritage of Indonesia. We shouldn't have a negative thinking of kebaya. Because there are such a rumor who said, "When I wearing kebaya, I looks like and old-fashioned, not good looking, just like jamu herbalist, etc". We are in the modern era, so the kebaya also developing to the modern-looking. Now, when woman wear kebaya, she looks more elegant and feminine. That's why in this era, woman usually using kebaya in the formal event. When in the past woman should wear sanggul in her hair, now woman's hair can be changed just like she want. And also, muslimah (islam woman) can combine their hijab with kebaya, along with syar'i style too.

       Kebaya dress consist of blouse as upper part, made of cotton, silk, lace, brocade, velvet or combination of them (especially for modern Kebaya), the blouse commonly semi-transparent (especially in Java and Bali) and worn over the torso or kemben (Javanese). While at down section of Kebaya can be a skirt or kain (an unstitched fabric wrap around three metres long). But in some region, the down section of Kebaya can be also using Sarong. Even that the skirt is usually tight, but we can make a modification to the tailor which can adapt it. So, what's your problem by using kebaya? Are you ashamed for old-fashioned-rumor? Don't be shy!
